Lighten the load for Spring 🌼

An Ayurvedic look at the qualities of spring and why this season can be a beautiful time for a little freshen up

There’s something about spring that makes us want to open things up.

The windows get thrown open. Cupboards suddenly feel like they need clearing. We start noticing the corners that gathered dust over winter.

Even food can begin to feel different.

The rich, warming meals that felt so comforting last month can start to feel a little heavy. We might find ourselves craving something fresher. Wanting to move more. Wanting a little less stuff.

That impulse isn’t accidental. It’s our nature.

Ayurveda teaches us to pay attention to the qualities around us because the qualities in our environment influence the qualities within us.

    And spring brings a shift.

    Winter leaves something behind

Winter is a natural time to draw inward.

The days are shorter. The weather is cooler. We tend to move less, eat more substantial foods and spend more time tucked away.

There is a heaviness to winter that can be deeply nourishing.

Ayurveda might describe some of its qualities as cold, slow, heavy, dense and still.

And seasonally, these are exactly what we need.

If you are scattered and depleted, heaviness can ground you. If life is moving too quickly, slowness can be medicine. If you’ve been stretched thin, a season that asks you to turn inward can be deeply restorative.

But Ayurveda also teaches us that like increases like.

And sometimes, by the time spring arrives, we have had enough heavy.

    We can feel it.

Maybe digestion feels a little sluggish, there’s more congestion or puffiness, your body feels slower to get moving, or you’ve simply got that feeling of wanting to shake something off.

This is the beauty of the season changing, and you’re likely ready to change with it.

Ayurveda looks for the opposite quality

Like increases like is one of the simplest Ayurvedic principles.

The flip side of that is opposites bring balance.

If something feels very cold, we introduce warmth.

If life feels frantic and scattered, we bring in steadiness.

If we feel dry, we add moisture.

And when things have become particularly heavy, slow and full, we might begin introducing a little more lightness, movement and space.

This doesn’t mean you need a dramatic overhaul, or that you need to live on juice, skip meals or launch yourself into an intense health regime because the calendar says spring. Although if that’s your jam, you do you.

Sometimes a freshen up can be much gentler than that.

What if you simply made a little room?

I love to use spring as an invitation to notice what has become a little too much.

Maybe it’s heaviness – physically or mentally, too many rich meals, a tad too much watching TV while eating.

Perhaps there has been alot of stimulation or just too many things asking something of you.

Which brings me to the question:

What could I simplify for a little while?

Sometimes, making space by lowering the demands on our mind and body can be just as powerful, if not more so, than striving for extremes or quick fixes.

Small ways of meeting heaviness with a little more warmth, lightness, movement and space can be quietly but powerfully effective.

    Winter is my fave, but…

    I actually love wintering.

I love comforting food, slower days and turning inward.

But we are not meant to stay in one season forever.

Spring arrives and nature begins moving again.

Things push through the soil. Days stretch out. Windows open.

And I notice my body whispering the same thing each year.

I’m ready for a little more space.

Not a complete reinvention or a new version of me.

Just a little clearing around the edges so I can hear myself again.

This is the spirit behind Rest + Renew

This week I’m taking my own advice and taking a little pause.

And this year I created Rest + Renew so I could share it with you, exactly for this season.

It’s a guided three-day Ayurvedic pause built around warm, simple meals, gentle digestive support and creating a little less demand on your body for a few days.

There is preparation, a simple three-day rhythm, my voice beside you each day and a gentle return afterwards, so you’re not handed a PDF and left wondering what to do with it.

You choose when the time feels right.

Then, for three days, we simplify.

Not because three perfect days are going to solve everything, but because sometimes taking a few things off your body’s plate can give you enough space to notice what it has been asking for all along.

If spring has you craving a little lightness, you can explore Rest + Renew – a guided three-day pause here.

This year I am taking a pause before I reach empty. Come along 💛
